Today, September 30, is the national Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. We wear orange shirts to honor the children taken from their families, and forced to attend residential schools as a way to “kill the Indian in them”. They were abused, neglected, and thousands died at the hands of the government and the church. This is a trauma that has lasted generations.

I also honor the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, today.

This song- Blackbird- sung in traditional Mi’kmaq honors both. The language the government tried to deny, and the women and children who say, “No more.”
