“Who can prevent all this from happening? The people. Public figures, journalists, musicians, actors, athletes, scientists, doctors, bloggers, stand-ups, Tiktokers, and more. Ordinary people. Ordinary, simple people. Men, women, old, young, fathers, and most importantly – mothers. I know that my speech will not be aired on Russian television. But the citizens of Russia have to see it. They need to know the truth.”
“And most importantly – mothers.”
It is time for the world to embrace a matriarchy.
What woman would send her child to die for her? That would be a rare moralless one.
Throughout history there have been women who have sent troops into battle. However, there are so few women leaders in the history of mankind, there really isn’t a large enough sample to draw conclusions. To assess the behavior of women leaders during crises one needs a large sample which history cannot provide. It is a stereotype to dismiss women as inherently peaceable. Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia (originally German) conducted military campaigns extending the borders of Russia by 520,000 square km, incorporating Crimea and much of Poland. There are other examples. Let’s not invoke stereotypes of gender, and assume leadership is uncomplicated. However, it is probably correct she wouldn’t “send her child to die for her,” much as the male leaders described in John Fogarty’s song, “Fortunate son.”
Hey @dztrctd 🙂 Excellent thoughts!
There have absolutely been female leaders who sent troops into battle, and I am not saying it would be a world without conflict. Any girl who has been through the high school gauntlet can tell you that (hello, Mean Girls). But I do believe there would be a hell of a lot less. So I did a little research (and these findings are out of date but I imagine still track) on criminal behavior. To me this is indicator of many things – impulsive behaviors, and a lack of control, anger management issues, sense of entitlement/superiority, etc.
Some stats from the US (2011 – arrest data from the FBI):
- Males constituted 98.9% of those arrested for forcible rape[55]
- Males constituted 87.9% of those arrested for robbery[55]
- Males constituted 85.0% of those arrested for burglary[55]
- Males constituted 83.0% of those arrested for arson.[55]
- Males constituted 81.7% of those arrested for vandalism.[55]
- Males constituted 81.5% of those arrested for motor-vehicle theft.[55]
- Males constituted 79.7% of those arrested for offenses against family and children.[55]
- Males constituted 77.8% of those arrested for aggravated assault[55]
Some stats from Canada:
Gender statistics Canada by total charged annual crimes (2002):[60]
- Adult males – 326,536[60]
- Adult females – 71, 058[60]
- Young males (12-17) – 74,513[60]
- Youth females (12-17) – 24, 487[60]
Women are just, statistically, less violent. Not all, but most.
As for Catherine the Great and other female leaders who have gone into battle, I argue that they are leading in an environment that is largely a Patriarchy. And, like today, to get respect in a man’s world a woman has to do the job twice as well, for half the pay, and in heels. And if I sound a bit bitter about it, it’s because I am. I have been paid half as much. I have had to navigate my way in a corporate setting and saw only the most cut throat of women made it to the top, all while avoiding the ass pinching. FUCK THAT.
In order to maintain her reign, she had to show strength and dominate. Which she did. I wonder, in a world of women leaders would similar things happen? I like to think that there would be more cooperation and less power hungry bullshit. Especially if the goal were moving humanity forward, not just our individual countries. This will likely all remain speculation for my lifetime, unfortunately.
Though all of that said, my hat is off to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, leader of Ukraine. He has shown incredible grace. (#fuck Putin)
I also want to state that I am not against men – I love men! Good men, with good hearts are amazing!! I’m raising 3 of my own. I just think letting the women take the wheel for a bit, might do our planet some good. Call it an experiment in human development. 🙂
