It’s not just a part of it – it *is* the story.
That’s why the story ends with “happily ever after” – because if that’s true, who wants to hear about that?
Of course I would like there to be, for me, a “And they lived happily, in amongst the highs and lows of daily living. They grew older together, overcame things life threw at them with a wonderful togetherness, occasionally fought and then made up with wild, animalistic sex. They were partners of a different, kinky sort who explored together, got lost together, and kept finding each other until the very end of their lives. They treated each other’s hearts with a spiritual reverence born of knowing the value and beauty of it, until they stopped beating. Some say they love each other still.”
I would throw in that there was lots and lots of dirty, nasty, debauched sex, but somethings should just go without saying.
