Christmas and OBM (Operation Becca’s Mojo)

Christmas was a wonderful surprise!

I was going to be spending my first Christmas without my kids alone. I have no family here, and Ginny has the Christmas tradition of staying in and watching old videos of her departed husband (which I respect and would never intrude on), so I was fully prepared to pity party it up, stay in bed and most likely get completely shit faced. Hiding all electronic devices before hand. My sister wanted me to go over to stay with her and the boys (my brother is in the middle east), but I just didn’t think I could do the kid thing, plus I was there last year, and the memories of Darth would probably overwhelm me like a tsunami. Nope. Not going there.

My baby brother (who lives in the US) called me and told me he was buying me a ticket to Toronto for Christmas and he wouldn’t take no for an answer. My Mum and Dad were going to be there visiting my Grandmother and Aunts, Uncles and cousins (I have a lot of family in that area) and I was going to be his surprise for everyone.

I tried to talk him out of it – I have to kennel my dog (he said he’d pay for it), I didn’t want him to spend the money, etc… he insisted.

I wanted to go and surprise my friend Kinky K, who had sent me a beautiful make up set, Christmas eve, but that didn’t work out sadly.

I flew in Christmas eve – I sat next to an interesting man who gave me his number.

Nick picked me up and he went into my Grandmum’s house first. I could hear everyone getting up from the table, shouting his name, all happy noises. He wasn’t supposed to be there either. He told Mum to come out to the car, her present was out here and he needed help with it.  I met her.

We hugged, we cried.  I went to the door and my Dad was there – I haven’t seen him in a couple of years. He looked stunned, and his face crumpled, he turned away for a moment and then pulled me into a hug.

We were a big pile of people in the hallway – everyone crying and laughing. It was so, so wonderful. No one has seen me since everything went tits up and my marriage fell apart.

I slept with Grandmum, since it was a full house.

Christmas itself was wonderful. Boxing day I went shopping with my Mum and Uncle.

The 27th, Grandmum started to not feel well, and fell. The woman is tough as nails, but she was fevery and slept all day. Nick was amazing with her – he has an excellent doctor voice, and kept her focused.

The next day I was leaving. I was hoping that I could see K on the way out, but it just seemed to be a crazy cluster. Grandmum fell again, and this time she went to the doctor and emergency. She has a fractured collar bone. She’s doing better now though.

I had a hell of a time getting back to Vancouver. In a weird twist I did see a man who struck me as gorgeous. We only said a couple of things to each other but I was giddy the entire time. I kept looking at him, and looking away if he caught me. My! Is it warm in here? I haven’t felt that in a long time, it felt good.

Before I left I queued up a bunch of post for my other tumblr (with the exception of one that I had to share), and that also felt really good.

With the new year a day away, I hope you all are enjoying the holiday! I am thinking about the adventures of 2013, healing, and getting closer to my beach house.
